I have visited Kaya Toast before, but have never really ate there. Mirians will straightaway recognize this place as one of the busiest place in Miri where lots of people will have their breakfast here.
Alright, review time, I will only focus on my nasi lemak and the kaya toast, as again, this was lunch time and were pressed for time.
Yup, that's the signboard. (photo credit: www.sixthseal.com)
This coffee shop focuses on the old style menu where back in the 80s' and 90's (even now!) breakfast menu such as -
- Kaya Toast bread (hence the name..)
- Nasi Lemak (Translated as Coconut rice or fragrant rice.. mind you not FATTY RICE)
- Half boiled egg (my personal childhood memories..served with soy sauce with a dash of pepper.
- Lots more... too many to mention here... sorry guys!
Well my colleague and I headed there for an early lunch at around 11.30am and I ordered the normal Nasi Lemak and my colleague ordered the Special Nasi Lemak. She also ordered a Kaya toast.

Kaya toast... it seems the size of bread has reduced significantly....coz of M'sian GST??? |
My normal nasi lemak.. note the portion is quite generous

Environment is quite nice |
The first thing which captured my attention is the portion of the nasi lemak which includes the condiments (ikan bilis / ikan pusu, and the sambal) which was from my point of view, is quite generous. Looking back at my pic, it could easily satisfy a hungry me any time...
The sambal for me was.. well quite okay actually. I would have preferred a bit more salty and a little bit more spicy in the sambal. But it goes very well with the fried ikan bilis / ikan pusu which was fried to a heavenly crisp!
I would say that I really had a good meal of the nasi lemak and cleared my throat with a good ice milk coffee (Kopi C Kaw Peng)
Next the Kaya Toast... Well, it goes without saying, the toast with the kaya was a typical sweet toast, however they were quite generous with the butter. This goes perfect with a freshly toasted bread, spread the kaya on top, a thick slice of butter and...HEAVEN!
Again, they have other dishes which I have not tried. Please leave your comments of other food yeah!
Verdict
Taste bud appeal : 7/10
Presentation : 5/10
Portion appeal : 7/10
Will I return (WIR) : Definitely!
